Explore Greater Port Macquarie’s Vineyards
Greater Port Macquarie is becoming as famous for its fine dining and excellent local wines as it is for its fantastic waterways and pristine, uncrowded beaches. Pay a visit to one of the superb local wineries to taste quality wine at the cellar door, enjoy locally produced gourmet treats and unwind in the rolling hinterland. Here are just two to check out close to South Pacific Port Macquarie family accommodation.
Bago Vineyards
One of Port Macquarie’s best kept secrets, the beautiful Bago Vineyards at the foot of the Broken Bago Mountain has been producing quality wines for nearly 30 years. The ten acre site produces grape varieties as diverse as Viognier, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir and is open daily for wine tasting, tours and picnics. While you’re there, pick up some locally produced cheese, honey or gourmet condiments from the boutique shop. Jazz in the Vineyards, a popular event that combines wine, food and live music on the tranquil sun-drenched lawns of Bago takes place on the second Sunday of each month.
Cassegrain Winery
Cassegrain winery overlooks expansive rolling vineyards and fragrant rose gardens. Visitors are invited to taste the excellent Chambourcin, Semillon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Rose and Verdelho produced onsite and watch the talented wine-making team at work. Enjoy Cassegrain wines and gourmet local produce at The Restaurant or check out a live music event at the fantastic natural amphitheatre hidden among the sweeping vineyards.
